FRICTION BOLT CAPACITY CALCULATOR
Friction Bolt Capacity Calculator
The Friction Bolt Capacity Calculator is used to estimate the load capacity of high-strength friction grip (HSFG) bolts in structural connections. It considers bolt grade, diameter, surface condition, number of bolts, and slip planes to provide accurate and reliable results.
This calculator is useful for engineers and designers to evaluate bolt performance in slip-resistant connections. It helps ensure safety, reduces manual calculations, and improves efficiency in structural design.
Formula
Slip Resistance (kN) = n × μ × fu × A × k / γ
Where:
- n = Number of bolts
- μ = Friction coefficient (based on surface condition)
- fu = Ultimate tensile strength of bolt
- A = Bolt area
- k = Number of slip planes
- γ = Safety factor
How to Use
Step 1: Select the Bolt
How to Use
Step 1: Select the Bolt Grade (e.g., A325) to define material strength.
Step 2: Choose the Bolt Diameter from the dropdown.
Step 3: Select the Surface Condition (e.g., Class A, B, etc.) to determine friction coefficient (μ).
Step 4: Enter the Number of Bolts used in the connection.
Step 5: Enter the Number of Slip Planes in the joint.
Step 6: Click the Calculate button to get the final bolt capacity.
Step 7: Click the Reset button to clear all inputs.
